The flight inspection work requires access to information classified up to and including SECRET since information concerning the location of some NAVAIDS is classified. Flight Inspection assignments are normally reviewed only for adherence to FAA policy and for quality and timeliness of the project. The supervisor or PIC provides general direction normally limited to outlining program objectives, operating policies, and standards, and requires the referral of problems affecting key policies and critical situations. Recommends certification, restrictions, or removal of NAVAIDS and IFPs from service in support of the national airspace system (NAS) or under the authority of the FAA.Īssists with all necessary documentation required in connection with the flight inspection mission to ensure accuracy and completion in a timely manner. Supports the PIC in the evaluation and certification of NAVAIDS and IFPs including Standard Instrument Approach Procedures, Departure Procedures, Standard Arrival Routes, charts, fixes, and holding patterns to ensure adherence to prescribed standards, tolerances, operational suitability, and acceptability of electronic facility performance. Participates in the data gathering, analysis, and in-flight inspection of instrument flight procedures (IFPs) and air navigational facilities, and evaluation of the quality of the signals emitted from navigational aids (NAVAIDS) for the purpose of determining conformance to operational standards and verifying facility integrity. When serving as PIC, functions as the team leader of an assigned aircrew. Supports the mission pilot-in-command (PIC) by operating aircraft safely, efficiently, effectively, and in the best interest of the Government. Serves as second-in-command on flight inspection missions. Serves as pilot-in-command (PIC) for repositioning or ferrying aircraft.
